November 5th is our 3rd birthday, Bonfire night & British sausage week. Sounds like an excuse to have another bash… Mulled wine, fireworks, pig roasts, sausages, bonfires & beers…. Free parking and free entry!

Throughout the weekend there will be a rather large beer festival and a full bar in a rather enormous marquee, BBQ, Pig roasts, Face painting, rodeo bull (hopefully), The Urban bakery lady with a load of sweet stuff and the pub will be open as usual! Entry is free, Parking is free and camping is £6 per pitch per night. Films are screened at dusk (which is normally about 9pm) on a 10×5m inflatable screen. Whilst the first couple of movies might not be suitable for everyone- I’m trying to make it a bit more of a family affair during the day…Everyone is welcome

The Great British Pub Awards 2010

We have been voted Best Tennanted/Leased Pub in the East & West Midlands according to The Morning Advertiser’s Great British Pub Awards 2010. Pickings were obviously slim this year and the finals are held at The Park Lane Hilton on September 9^th where tickets are £220 each- I’ll see you there…not.

That tractor that I mentioned a million years ago is finished and is in the garden- I think it’s brilliant!! And, No, it doesn’t run!

Goodbye, hello

We wish a fond farewell to Sandra Allan (Taggart) the Scottish lady who you all accused of being my other half. She wasn’t and now she’s gone.

In her place we welcome two new guys:

Ian Chambers & Mark ‘Smurf’ Docker- Ian is very local (Like a redneck only smarter) and is part of the family that supplies a lot of our local produce and Smurf is, well, Smurf, really. Your lives will never be quite the same again. That’s a promise

I have been informed that the release date for Iron Man 2 has now been put back until October. Normally we can get films prior to release on DVD but on this occasion fortune has vomited on my eiderdown. I shall now commence with operation: WhatthebloodyhellamIgoingtoshownowthen?

THE RED LION FILM & BEER FESTIVAL 2: THE SEQUEL

Greetings and felicitations, my desperately attractive, nimble witted travellers. (Not you Jeremy) Tis’ I, from that there boozer by the river that doth get quite busy when the sun comes out, and that. Yeah! Well it’s time to tell you how it is, how it will and forever shall be, Amen (and then you have to work out why and if. Come on now, because I cant do everything for you and lets face it, a bit of free will at least facilitates a culpable culture!) So that’s 6 lines and I’ve said hello…

“What’s with the email chubby?” I hear you scream tenderly into my ear whilst eating a freshly dunked hobnob -“We haven’t read any of your drivel for a few months, we were kind of hoping you’d lost our email addresses and had left us in peace”

You wish I’m back and this time it’s personal…

Fortuitously since March, business has been ‘abooming’ and the pub’s been doing what it does best- hurling food and abuse matched with some rather delicious new wines at complete strangers- not to mention a few well fed regulars.

(Do you have anything that would go with a punch in the face?- But of course sir, I have  a rather nice Gewurztraminer that’ll be just perfect- take a slug and then reduce the swelling using the wine bottle pressed firmly against said face- but if it’s just verbal insults then I’d stick with the Pansy rose from New Zealand- it’s pink, called Pansy and camps up any verbal two and froeing after just a glass.)

Very simply I wanted to let you know that we are holding our second annual Film & Beer Festival at the end of August. 27^th-30^th to be precise- for those of you who came last year- the same but bigger and longer and for those that didn’t come last year….

Movies on a 12 meter x 5 meter inflatable screen, pig roasts, live music, over a dozen local ales, wines, lagers, soft drinks, BBQ, fields, wellies, sunshine (maybe- otherwise a bigger marquee!!) All of that and free entry…It aint half bad! You can even camp in one of the fields for £6 a night! Thus far I’ve confirmed only one of the films as Iron Man 2- I’ll make a decision on the other two imminently! Any ideas?!

So there you have it- It’s a couple of months away but I thought I’d let the special few know…

In other News

What a shame the football has finished. It really was……on… Alot.

We have almost finished restoring our Massey Ferguson T20 tractor that will sit nicely under the trees at the bottom of the garden- that should be in by the end of July and it’s looking pretty good! I’ll get some photos up on the web as soon as I can!

And another thing…we are in need of filling the following positions.
